Crazy Dog Lady Challenge: Fabric Inspiration

02/6/2015

Hello there again!

crazy dog lady 300 jpeg

For those of you who are crazy dog ladies and considering joining us in our sewing challenge, I wanted to share some cool dog fabric that I’ve found.  Carlee has already shared some super cool fabric ideas from Spoonflower.  She even paired up patterns with fabric ideas! How cool is that?

I, however, am a girl who fancies dresses (yes, and skirts!).  I’ll be sewing up a dress (or maybe two!) this month and a nightgown with my doggie fabrics.  And yeah…. I’ll be making something for the dogs as well.  More on that later in the month.  For now, I’m happy to share some super cool dog theme fabrics that would work for dresses, skirts and blouses as well as bags or any type of accouterment to profess your love your best friend.

This “Frenchie” print Japanese kokka cotton voile is one that I’ll be making a dress out of.  It’s labeled as French Bulldogs, but a lot of the dogs resemble Boston Terriers (of which I have two!), so I surely had to have once I saw it.  It comes in three colorways (I own the black one).

If you’re a Scottie lover, you sure are lucky as there a lot of Scottie fabrics, including this fancy Scottie Couture fabric.

If you fancy poodles, here’s another feminine print that’s a wee bit retro.

I really can’t get over how adorably cute this “Dogs in Bowties” fabric is!  And look — there’s some Bostons!

This “Doggy Dress Up” fabric really puts a smile on my face!  And do I spot both a Boston and a Border Collie?  I’m in heaven!

Speaking of funny….

And how about more pugs!

It seems like the cool fabrics featuring bigger dogs are lacking — but here’s one!

I know…. more Scotties!  But it’s so cute!

I’ve been having a hard time finding any Border Collie fabric.  Several years back they had some beautiful BC fabric with BC’s and flowers that I found at my local Beverly’s Fabrics.  I bought that and made my dogs some pillows, but I’ve never seen anything like that again.  I did find this fabric on etsy with sheep and a couple of BC’s and have been thinking about getting it.  None of the BC fabrics on Spoonflower really speak to me, so I keep looking…..

If you’ve been searching and still haven’t found a fabric with your dog on it, HotDiggetyDog has just about every dog breed in their store!  I’ve never ordered from them, but there’s a ton of dog print fabrics on their site.

Note:  I am not affiliated with any of the above fabric stores.  With the exception of HotDiggetyDog, I have ordered fabric from all of those sellers and had positive experiences.

Oh man I love the blue polka dot one. Which is predictable, given how much I love blue, polka dots, AND dogs.

I saw a couple of basset hounds, but not bloodhounds. I have a very pretty upholstery fabric to make an Odette that has girls in paris with poodles! Does it need to be only dog fabric? g

I started this project pre-pandemic and just finished it... I have been experiencing a lot of sewing lethargy, which isn't unusual considering our current circumstances here in the US. I'm trying to get my sew-jo back as I would just love to sit here all day sewing and watching TV. I have been embroidering and am finding escape in that. ❤️

My family recently received a new Purple Heart med My family recently received a new Purple Heart medal for my grandpa. My grandpa was a highly decorated and yet modest man and although he was proud to have received his service medals, he did not display them. I found most of them forgotten in a dusty box under his desk after he passed. Others I found in footlockers in the barn. I have yet to find the Purple Heart that he earned while being shot down over France during WWII. He had a bullet in his leg with remnants that remained for the rest of his life. Thankfully, we were able to apply for and receive another one. All Purple Hearts have the recipients name engraved on the back. The last photo was the last medal he received - the Prisoner of War medal (1987). He became a POW after his P-51D was shot down and he was captured by the Nazis. My grandpa and his military brothers and sisters are not "losers" or "suckers". They served the country that they love.
