Paddy’s First Week

03/24/2012

Paddy

It’s now been a week since Paddy came into our lives.  A week full of one of the happiest, sweetest dogs I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. 🙂  So happy and blessed to have rescued such a wonderful dog!  He’s going to make a family very happy when he gets adopted.

Paddy had an appointment with the vet today as the bites he has on him are very swollen.  When he was in the shelter he was attacked by a pit bull when the barrier between them opened during the night.  He had bites on his neck and side and the one on his side looked like it was an abscess.  The vet also thought it was, but checked it out further and and found that it wasn’t.  I can’t remember exactly what it’s called (a “stoma”?), but it’s his body’s way of healing from the wound and is a bunch of fluid underneath his skin.  She drained it, but wasn’t certain if it would fill back up again.  She said that his wounds are healing well and that he’s healthy.  She was also surprised how sweet he is considering all that he’s been through.

Paddy also had his first trip to Petsmart today and walked very well with Doc.  He had such a good time with all of the scents.  And unlike Doc, he doesn’t try to spray everything!

Doc is beginning to be very jealous of Paddy and has been growling and snapping at him when he has a toy or something that he wants.  Paddy is submissive to him and backs off and still Doc does it…. So Doc is getting neutered next month.  Doc is ten and past his time for being a breeding dog, and he should live longer and have a nicer temperament towards male dogs after his operation.

Paddy is adjusting well to life with my family and enjoying all the comforts, play time and good food. 🙂
