A Gone With the Wind Christmas

12/20/2012

Well, I am a huge Gone With the Wind fan and GWTW by Margaret Mitchell is my favorite book and the film version is number one with me as well.   I am absolutely in love with the costumes.  In fact, the antebellum period is one of my favorites in fashion.

I have been collecting the GWTW Hallmark Christmas ornaments since 1997 when Scarlett in her infamous red dress came out in ornament size.  My mom gives me them every Christmas and with fifteen years of ornaments (sometimes two or three will come out in a year), I have quite a few of them.  I usually put them on my gold filigree metal ornament tree and display them on a table, but last year I decided to put them on a tree and have a GWTW themed Christmas tree.  I made a special tree skirt and my MIL (who makes couture doll fashions) created my beautiful Christmas Scarlett Barbie that serves as my tree topper.

Here is my GWTW Christmas tree. 🙂

We have an Arizona Cypress this year, and the trunk is a bit crooked, so it looks off kilter…. it is not just your imagination!  Our tree sits out on our porch as we don’t quite have room in our house for it.  When we live in my grandparents’ house (which is rather large), I plan on having two trees up — one of which will be my GWTW tree. 🙂

The GWTW Hallmark ornaments actually started in 1996, but apparently my mom (an avid Hallmark ornament collector) and I missed the first one.  I actually just got this for my birthday back in May.  It’s a miniature ornament set and Tara doesn’t actually hang up — so I set it on the bookcase next to the tree.

My beautiful tree topper is Scarlett in one of her Christmas dresses.  She wears this one when Ashley comes home from the war.  My MIL made this beautiful silk dress.

My GWTW tree skirt is made of Gone With the Wind quilting fabrics by Quilting Treasures and burgundy velvet.  I also made a small one for my MIL (also a huge GWTW fan!) for her tabletop tree.

Apparently the 2003 ornament above is worth the most at the moment.  It might have been a limited edition one that had to be pre-ordered.  I’d have to look at the box to see, but I already put them away.  My mom orders these over the summer at the Hallmark store event and then I think she goes again in the fall.  She never misses out on any of them!

Everyone needs a little Boston Terrier under their tree, don’t they?
