I am a bit addicted to buying fabric as of late…. and the cause for my obsession is Fabric Mart. You would think that I work as a publicist there the way I go on and on about the deals I get there! I have been buying fabric from there for about a year and I am very much addicted to shopping there. You can’t blame me when you see the fabulous deals that I find. Who can resist designer silks marked down to $4 or $5 a yard? Or the $1/yd fabrics? Or the mystery fabric bundles? Not I, that’s for sure! I have never been disappointed with any fabric that I have purchased from them and they are a dream to buy from. I have been disappointed from other online fabric stores in the past with bad customer service, slow shipping, and receiving fabric that was poor quality or that I did not order. That has never been the case with Fabric Mart. And so I continue to buy! 🙂
I have been ordering a lot the last couple of months and most fabrics are for myself. I would not consider myself a fabric hoarder as I have a use in mind for nearly every yard of fabric I buy. Lately, I’ve put sewing my vintage gown collection for my business on hold as I’ve been building up my vintage inspired wardrobe. After all, what better advertisement am I than the clothes I wear?
These are some of my latest purchases:
These are cotton shirting fabrics. The brown one is a herringbone and I think I bought that for a buck or two a yard. The two striped ones are Burberry shirtings. I’m going to make my husband shirts with the blue and the brown ones. He wouldn’t wear the burgundy stripe, so I’m not sure yet what I will do with that. I bought it for myself and purchased enough yardage to make a dress, but I’m not sure if that would look good. So still thinking…..
This is absolutely divine cotton broadcloth! It is a stretch broadcloth and I will be making a 40’s sundress with it. This is part of my resolution to get more red into my wardrobe. Red is a color that suits my complexion very well and yet I rarely ever wear it. My closet is full of pinks and purples and greens and nearly every other color you can think of — but hardly any red….
This Marc Jacobs suiting is more of my resolution to wear more red. I’m going to make a 40’s suit with this fabric.
This is some Anna Sui black floral silk chiffon. I think I may have paid $4.99/yd. I just love this print! So pretty and quirky! I’m going to make a spring/summer dress with this one. Haven’t decided yet what to line it with and what color.
The white brocade is a metallic silver one and you can’t really tell how shiny it is in the photo. I bought it to make curtains in my sewing studio, but when I got it, found it was a little too shiny for that. Instead, I’m going to recover some lamp shades with it as it goes well with the Victorian couch set I have down there (someday, I will post photos of my studio — but not yet!). I have a lot of yardage of that as I believe it was only a buck or two a yard. Not sure what I’ll do with the rest. Maybe some corsets! The rose and purple brocades are Maggy London and are still available on the website when last I looked. I’ll be making curtains down there with the rose one instead. The purple (looks different in this photo), I may use for the curtain on the guest bedroom side of my sewing studio (my studio is a full floor of our split level “basement”). The turquoise brocade? I don’t know yet what I’ll do with that. I found it lovely and it was majorly discounted, so I bought it. It matches my bedroom set, so I may make a couple of pillows with it.
This is most of my last mystery fabric bundle. The black jungle print is a challis, the yellow a knit, the fuchsia a twill, and the orange/brown one a knit. I plan on making a cardigan and maybe some panties with the yellow one, but have to no future plans for the rest. I guess they will just go into the stash!
This one also came in my last mystery bundle. It’s a wool blend coating. Not sure yet what to do with it, but there it goes in the stash!
As I was in the midst of writing this, the fed ex guy just dropped off another box from Fabric Mart….. yeah, I might be addicted…. just a little. 🙂
Happy Sewing!
