While my husband and I were camping on the Lost Coast, we stopped in the Victorian village of Ferndale.
I have been through Ferndale many times with my family while growing up, but hadn’t been up there since the 90’s. I’m glad to see that nothing has changed!
The town of Ferndale is a state historic landmark and has many preserved Victorian storefronts and homes. It’s like stepping back in time! Every time I’ve been up there it has been foggy and gloomy just as it is in these photos, but I’m assured by one of my friends who lives up there that the sun does peek through occasionally!
I have always been in love with Victorian architecture and would love to someday own a Victorian. And of course, this would be the perfect town to do so in!
And of course, I have my favorite house! 🙂 Oh, to spend my summers up in Ferndale….. a girl can dream, can’t she?
In November, Ferndale is having their Victorian Holidays celebration. I so dream to go to that and make myself a Victorian outfit and stroll the streets in my finery, taking a trip back in time. I could put one of my many Victorian patterns to use and make my own ensemble. I have yet to make a Victorian outfit, but I imagine it is a lot of work, especially since you need to have undergarments and trimmings for it to work best. If not for this year, for the next. Right now, I need to focus on getting back to finish my 1920’s tea dress for the Gatsby Summer Afternoon! That is much more imminent as it’s in September. The Gatsby picnic takes place in Oakland, which is much closer than Ferndale is (8 hours away). I will just have to keep sewing and see what I can accomplish and see if I can convince my husband to Ferndale in November!
Happy Daydreaming!

What a neat place! I too love Victorian architecture, especially the ornate wooden trims on porches and rooflines.

I don’t think there is any architectural style that has more devotion to detail!

This place is amazing! Your dream cottage is so cute too, I love seeing Victorian houses that are more scaled down. I have to get out here sometime!!
