Hello friends!
I’m proud to announce my participation in a new online sewing community: The Curvy Sewing Collective!
This group was the brainchild of Jenny (Cashmerette) and Mary (Idle Fancy) for plus size sewists. Many of us have had to learn the hard way how to grade up patterns, how to find styles that are flattering and how to alter patterns to fit our shapes. Soon there will be info available to help those starting out with plus size sewing who need help fitting their figure, showcasing some gorgeous garments and a community of helpful and supportive sewists.
When I became part of the online sewing community a year or so ago I don’t recall seeing many curvy bloggers modeling their makes. I was a blog lurker before I decided to jump in and start sharing my own projects. I wasn’t really sure at first how I’d like modeling my handmade clothing and sharing photos, but after some urging from other sewers on We Sew Retro, my dresses went from my dressform modeling them to me! I bought a tripod and started reading some photography and modeling tutorials and became more confident taking photos of myself and sharing them as time went along. It has been awesome to be a part of the sewing community and to have some wonderful readers who are supportive and knowledgeable and inspiring. Without this community and our sewalongs, challenges and contests (not to mention the fabulous garments that y’all create!), I would not have a closet full of my handmade makes! Sure, I’ve been a long time sewer, but I don’t think I realized how I could create ANYTHING I wanted — be it couture and vintage inspired — until all of you came into my life. No longer does it feel like I’m sewing alone, I feel as if you are all with me in my sewing room. It’s pretty much the next best thing to having an old-fashioned sewing circle. 🙂
This collective is still in it’s planning stages, but there are some awesome projects coming up that we’ll be sharing! I sure am excited about what is yet to come!
Check out Jenny’s recent blog post to learn more and check out the other fabulous bloggers in our group!
Happy Sewing!

I’m so glad to see this collective. I have a few curvy friends who don’t want to sew because they don’t think there are patterns for their size.
Tanya Maile Hughes says
I hope they will be inspired to sew for themselves!

Huzzah! This is a great initiative! I’m thrilled to hear that curvy girls are coming together to offer fashion and sewing help. I’m right there in between “regular” and “plus size”, so I will avidly follow the collective!
