Hello friends!
I’m back with another Moneta!
It sure has been a while since I made my first two Monetas. I wasn’t actually planning on making another one until it got cooler here as close-fitting knits and 100 degree temps don’t fare well with me. However, I’m headed to a cooler region and thought the Moneta would be a great travel basic.
This pattern, of course, is the Colette Moneta. My favorite knit dress. Period.
The fabric is a kelly green cotton blend ponte knit that was a Fabric Mart “crazy priced” fabric a month or so ago. Green is fast becoming my signature color and I love all shades of it, although I’m quite partial to shades of kelly and emerald green. Emerald was even my most prominent wedding color (bridesmaid dresses!). I am quickly drawn to greens when I peruse fabrics and cannot resist it. I considered skipping this green ponte when I saw it as I have been trying to stay away from solid colors, but I could not NOT buy it, especially as it was only about $2.99/yd. Perhaps I am a bit monotonous when it comes to green, but I believe it to better than filling my wardrobe with nondescript neutrals.
Once again, this Moneta is version 2 with the short sleeves. I have found that I much prefer the short sleeved version as opposed to the sleeveless and my short-sleeved Moneta gets a lot more wardrobe rotation that my sleeveless one.
I didn’t stray from the instructions and made this dress in the same manner as my previous two. Most Monetas that I’ve seen are made of a jersey knit, but I quite prefer the ponte. It’s not too thick for this pattern and camouflages any lumpy bits.
To me, this green is quite a lot like a neutral as it can be paired with many other colors. The solid color can also be dressed up or down. I quite like the pairing of greens and pinks together (obviously….) myself. 🙂
I already have another knit in my stash waiting to become a Moneta. Ever since this pattern I keep my eyes open for cute knit prints in cotton blends. I much prefer organic cotton and bamboo knits, so I’m always looking for those.
Where are your favorite places to buy knits?
Happy Sewing!

I love green and would wear it all the time… I used to as a matter of fact! Black or green… My kids used to tell me there were other colors out there. Haha… You look beautiful in this dress and green! I can see why it is becoming your favorite!
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Laurie! You seem to wear every color now!!! I’m trying to add more of other colors to my wardrobe, too!
Tina says
You look absolutely ADORABLE!!!! Green is your color, and the ponte is a fabulous choice. Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks, Tina!!! 🙂

I love the idea of green as a neutral! It looks really wonderful with your pink accessories!
tanyamaile says
Honestly, I think a lot of colors could be neutrals in the right shade!

This dress looks great on you! I like Fabricmart fabrics for knits, and would love to try Hart’s fabrics. The Moneta looks like such an awesome pattern.
tanyamaile says
Thank you, Vanessa! With harts, it seems that the quality is consistent, although they can cost more. Fabric Mart is not always as consistent with quality, but when you can pay just a few bucks a yard for a lot of fabrics, you can gamble a bit.

When you find a color that you look terrific in, then that becomes your signature color. To me that is smart. I think a lot has to do with how your hair color and skin tone play nicely with a specific color.
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Martha! It’s always good to know what shades suit us best and stick with them.

I agree twice – I prefer my sleeved versions of this, and I MUCH prefer it in ponte. I like my merino knit version but it doesn’t get worn NEARLY as much as my ponte ones – less likely to show my lumps and bumps! And I have two lots of ponte lined up to become Monetas, a green and a purple.

I also really like the 3/4 sleeve version that I just made! 🙂 Can’t wait to see your future monetas!

The fit on this is impeccable! And the pink accessories look amazing with the green ponte, too!

Thank you!!

Oh oh oh! I love the ponte for the Moneta. Everything looks so much better with the structure and fit. I adore greens on you! 🙂
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Andie!! It just seems hard to find nice prints in ponte knits!

I just finished up another moneta too (as you probably saw on instagram). I ATTEMPTED to make it in a solid color, but broke down and added a little print embellishment. I just couldn’t go all solid! I’m going to use your versions as my muse, because I really need some solid versions to wear with printed cardigans and/or crazy shoes. The green looks great on your and I think it is totally a neutral. Are you using a non-stretch stitch on the neckline? I’ve been tempted to try it since my machine does NOT like the double needle, but I’ve been nervous that it might cause problems.
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Megan! I love seeing your monetas!!! You always come up with some great fabric pairings. I did use a straight stitch on the neckline, which has worked out fine for me. I used the double needle on the sleeve and hemline.

That’s a lovely dress, and very flattering; great color! Love the shoes, too! 😀

Thank you, Patricia!

Tanya,
I am a green person as well, but oddly not in clothes. My house is three colors of green. My sitting room chairs are lime green ultra suede, my iPhone is pistachio! This looks lovely on you, and I love the pink accessories. Nice job.
tanyamaile says
Susan, I’m the opposite!!! Lol! Although I’m planning on painting my sewing room green!!
Rox Guillemette says
Love that dress! (and I understand why green is your fave: it suits your skin ton very well.) Oh and don’t get me started about those swedish hasbeens!
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Rox!! 🙂 I sure do love my hasbeens although they are a pain breaking in!
Jenny Rushmore says
I prefer pontes for the Moneta too – they generally seem to be much more figure-skimming than thinner jerseys! This looks fab – love the colour on you, and to see a fellow Moneta addict 🙂
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Jenny! I’m having fun finding different knits for the moneta!
