Hello friends!
I made one Violet and couldn’t wait to make another one!
This, of course, is the BlueGingerDoll Violet knit dress. It’s definitely one of my favorite knit patterns and once I made my first one, I was already planning another one!
This Violet is made pretty much the same as the first one. I lengthened the skirt by two inches instead of adding the contrast hem band like on my first. I’d probably add more length to it next time, but I’m happy with this length, especially when I wear it with leggings and boots like I am here.
Both fabrics for this dress are from Mood. I used the Nostalgia Rose Floral Wool Blend Knit for the yokes and the Heathered Maroon Cotton Jersey for the rest of the dress. The cotton jersey is sold out as I write this, but was a special sale of the day.
The rose wool knit is a little sheer, so I’m glad I opted to put it on the yoke. I have yardage left over from both of these fabrics and I’m hoping to eke out a Muse Jenna cardi with it. If I wear that with this dress, do you think it will be too much?
Also, here’s my Violet paired with a scarf I just knitted a little while ago. It’s only about the fifth scarf that I’ve made. I used Lion Brand Thick & Quick wool blend yarn in a ribbed design. Soooo much faster to knit than my first scarves which were merino and cashmere blends and which were thin yarns. I’m planning on knitting my first cardigan soon!!
I took these photos in one of our horse paddocks as it was raining out. My boots got dirty as I was kicking manure out of the way. lol 🙂 Also, not sure why my leggings look blue-ish. They are actually a black “denim” color. Yeah, it’s raining and I’m wearing sunglasses…. mostly as I did not feel like doing any eye makeup…. 🙂
Note: This pattern was complimentary as I was a pattern tester.
Happy Sewing!

I really love the layers of merlot/maroon here and the texture the chunky scarf added. I love all my knitted hats I’ve made with Thick and Quick- it’s nice that I can wash it.
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Laura! 🙂 Didn’t even plan on wearing that scarf with this dress, but realized they were the same color, so why not? 🙂 I love the Thick and Quick – fast and easy and it feels nice.

Also the butterscotch boots are an amazing footwear choice here. The layering possibilities with this color/silhouette are boundless. Perfect for a jean jacket, short cardigan, long cardigan, light coat the same length as the dress. I really better make one of these.
Thick and Quick is the perfect acrylic, it’s not squeaky and it never seems to give me terrible hat static.

OOOO! I can’t wait to see what you decide to knit!! Hubby loves this dress, btw. I might have to make a copy cat.
tanyamaile says
This would look gorgeous on you, Sara! 🙂 And totally a dress you could dress up or down.

Now you’re speaking my language!

The colors work so well together! And I like the yoke in that contrasting fabric.
Which pattern are you planning on knitting?
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Erin!! I bought the Ramona cardigan by Elizabeth Smith. http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/knitting/clothing/ramona-cardigan/73847 Looks like I could do it. Just need to find the right yarn for it. I’m planning on making one in an avocado color.

I don’t think the cardi would be too much since it would cover up most of the accent design.

I think you’re right! I’m hoping to cut it out so it’s mostly that floral wool knit — but we’ll see how it turns out.

Another fabulous outfit! I love the fabric choices and colours. xxxx

Awe, thanks, Poppy! 🙂

Such a gorgeous color on you! Love the way you styled it. I’ve been so inspired by all your makes here recently.
tanyamaile says
Thank you, Shannon!!! 🙂 I’m loving my most recent makes and the ones lingering on my sewing list the most!

Ohhhh, I like it! It looks so pretty on you. Funny how the camera lens changes the color of things. I think the Muse cardigan would be just fine with this. Too much? No such thing! 😉
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Alicia! 🙂 Just never sure how “matchy matchy” things are. 🙂

Another gorgeous version of the Violet pattern. 🙂 I just need some lovely fabric to make this and then I will also get hooked. 😉
tanyamaile says
Thank you, Andie!!! 🙂 I really like how you can mix and match fabric placements on this dress. Figuring out how to do that probably takes me longer than actually sewing this dress!

I love this version, too. I actually just caved and bought this pattern during BGD’s recent sale. I think I might use this version as inspiration and do a solid version with a lace overlay on the yokes.
tanyamaile says
I really can’t wait to see yours, Michelle! This pattern is perfect for a stretchy lace!

Again, this is a total knockout. That color is sooo lovely. Ooh, and check out those boots!!
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Rox!!! I just love these boots! 🙂
Dana says
This is so great! Those two fabrics are so good together, and the color is lovely on you. Nicely done!
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Dana! I was happy that they went well together as I was comparing them online and not in person!

Great look! You make some of the nicest dresses–figure flattering, great colors and fabrics–it’s so encouraging for me.
tanyamaile says
Thank you, Robin! I honestly couldn’t imagine myself in a knit dress a year ago!
Leslie Gray says
This is so cute! The color, the design, the boots…I love it all. Thank you for sharing!
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Leslie! This ensemble really does pull it all together. I wore this dress last week with different boots and it didn’t look nearly as good!
Alicia says
Gorgeous!! I love your color choices, it looks perfect.
tanyamaile says
Thanks, Alicia! I’m never sure whether two fabrics are going to look good together when I’m just looking at them online — but I’m glad they do!
Meg McCarthy says
So pretty! I bought the Violet pattern after seeing your first version and cant wait to sew it up! BTW: how tall are you? Trying to decide if/how much I might have to lengthen the skirt.
tanyamaile says
Thank you, Meg!!! I cannot wait to see what you sew up! 🙂 I’m 5’8″. The skirt is pretty short.. I’d probably add 3″ next time.
