The Wonder Woman Dress

09/30/2015

ww 1

Hello friends!

I’m so happy to share this dress with you! Yes, another ESP dress, but this time in one of my favorite fabrics — Wonder Woman!!!

fabric

I bought this fabric earlier this year from Beverly’s.  I was never a big fan of Wonder Woman until I read some of the early stories from the 40’s and really got into her and what she stands for after that.  She really is inspiring feminist figure and she’s pretty damn awesome, isn’t she?  Therefore it seemed apropos that I made a dress with this cool DC Comics fabric.

This fabric is a multi-directional print and I wasn’t certain at first which direction to cut the fabric.  I decided to cut it in one direction on one side of the dress and in the other direction on the reverse side.

Snowball making her appearance

This is one of many Decades Everyday ESP dresses that I’ve made.  It’s most definitely a TNT pattern for me, and I’m probably never going to stop making it, especially when I have a kitschy fabric like this to sew.  I graded this pattern up, lowered the neckline, did a swayback alteration and lengthened the skirt by a couple of inches.  All in all, my normal adjustments, with the addition of the lowered neckline.

When I bought this fabric, the woman who cut it at Beverly’s asked me what I was going to make with it.  When I told her that I was going to sew a dress with it, she looked at me like I was crazy.  A crazy gal with a bad ass dress.

headband

I’m also wearing this awesome headband made by the equally awesome Andie!  Aren’t sewing friends the best?  I know I’m not wearing it like a tiara, but I guess it feels better for me to wear it as a headband.

batman

I wore this dress to a local con and a lot of people commented on it. Here I am above posing with Batman and his bat bike.  One gal told me I should dress up as Wonder Woman herself.  Well….you will never see me sporting spandex or walking around in a bodysuit.  But if I ever did venture away from everyday WW cosplay, I’d be more likely to wear something along the lines of this:

You pull off this dress so well, the style suits you amazingly, and you look great in novelty fabric. Isn’t it great having a fit and flare TNT pattern? Mine is Simplicity 2444.

Cute dress! Now, if my daughter ever saw that fabric, she’d definitely want me to make her a Wonder Woman dress, too.

Thanks, Michelle! You know she needs one. 🙂 Those new Simplicity girls superhero costumes are so darling. I bet Eva would look so cute in those. Too bad there aren’t adult sized patterns of those designs!

There are adult-sized versions, actually–they’re just not all grouped together. I was really pushing for one of the superhero costumes for Eva for Halloween, but she’s insisting that she wants to be a robot. A blue robot. *sigh* (I’ve got an OOP McCall’s pattern that’s going to help make that happen, but I think I might finally end up having to bite the bullet and buy a glue gun for this one.)

Yeah, I saw the Andrea Schewe designed adult superhero costumes which are really cool and authentic, I just wouldn’t wear that. I like the girls’ version better! 🙂 A robot? Ah, that’s cool!!!!!

Wow, I am in love with this dress. It am not sure if it even trumps your horror film dress. Absolutely stunning. You look great in it and I hope that the con was a lot of fun. Xx

Thank you, hun! 🙂 The horror film dress is back out in rotation, too! The con was so much fun! I can’t wait until the Silicon Valley Comic Con. We’re finally getting a top notch con in NorCal!!!!! I guess I better start making my Dalek costume before then!

I LOVE having TNTs to turn to. They are the building blocks of me-made wardrobes! Another excellent dress, my dear!
