So, it was my intention to start blogging more of my projects. The thing is, I spend more time sewing and creating than photo taking……
Anyway….. I made this dress a couple of weeks ago from my favorite go-to pattern, Simplicity 2444. It’s a very easy pattern with a vintage feel and it fits me well.
I made this sleeveless dress out of silk dupioni that I got for a steal last year at Fabric Mart. I wasn’t too sure about the print, but as the fabric was such a good price (maybe $4.99/yd for silk!) I couldn’t resist! After making this dress, I did end up loving the fabric and its vintage 60s feel.
I lined this with pongee. I don’t usually line silk with synthetic, but as I was making this to be a colder weather dress, I opted to use this material instead of paying 2 or 3x as much as my fabric cost for a silk lining. I like to use batiste or voile when lining silk, but that would be too light for this dress. I made this to wear with my pink cashmere cardigan and I was definitely warm enough. I paired it with some nude ballet flats and was good to go!
I love to add self fabric belts to retro dresses and I think it amps up the simple dress pattern. This is one of my favorite dresses that I’ve made. 🙂
Ps I’m typing this on my tablet, so excuse me if the photo is small or my text is scarce…. since I got this for Christmas I rarely use my laptop, which is much better for blogging!
Happy Sewing!
