Sewing for the Kitties

02/26/2013

Well, I don’t just sew clothing…. sometimes I sew for the kitties!

I’ve had this pattern in my collections for a while.  It is McCalls 5149, an out of print pattern I got from my MIL.  I bought the fabric and foam for it a few months ago, and the materials cost me more than it would have been to buy one of these at Ross.  But, the best thing about sewing things for yourself, is that you get to choose the fabrics and colors and you have the satisfaction of knowing that you made it.

I bought the fleece at Joann and used both foam and poly stuffing.  I cut foam to fit the fabric pieces and then put stuffing all around it.  This saved me a little money, plus it was a little easier to sew as it wasn’t as bulky.  It needs the foam to keep the shape.  I love how it turned out, but honestly, I doubt I’ll be making another one.  It’s kind of a pain in the butt to sew  with all of the bulkiness, but I do like the finished product. So who knows? 🙂

And the cats seem to love it!  That is, until they find somewhere else they’d rather lay…..

I made this pillow out of remnant fleece I found at Joann when Snowball was just a kitten.  This is one of the other spots they love to lay. 🙂
