Yesterday, I had worn my eggplant colored linen dress (the ever trusty Simplicity 2444) and was reminded how I had made it to wear on our last trip to NYC last May.
Every dress I wore on that trip was made by me. 🙂  We are going on a trip to the southwest this year and once again, I plan to have an all new dress wardrobe all made by me. 🙂
I found that beautiful linen at Joann’s about a week before we left for NY and sewed this dress up in a jiffy. Â My husband thought it was boring and plain until I jazzed it up with a cardi and a vintage necklace. Â It’s now become one of my favorites.
This necklace was a gift from my grandma’s jewelry box. Â It’s a vintage 60s and meant to be worn as a three strand close to your neck. Â That feels suffocating to me, so I wear it like this. Â I have several three and four strand necklaces like this of hers and I wear them all like this.
I remember this day and how horrid the humidity was to my hair….. when we left our friends’ home on Long Island it was long and curly and when we got the city it was frizzy…. reminded me so much the summer I spent in Savannah, GA, so I learned by the next day how hairspray and bobby pins were my friends.
Isn’t it wonderful how a certain garment can evoke memories? 🙂
Happy Sewing!
