{tutorial} Refinishing “Junk” with Spray Paint

08/10/2013

This is one of the easiest things you can do to change the look of things that others might consider “junk.”  These are desk accessories that had been sitting on my grandpa’s desk for 40 years or so and were ugly and dusty, but not brittle nor falling apart.  I had been thinking about going and buying myself new desk stuff when I thought:  “What if I could spray paint these and use them?”  Some cleaning and $5 later, I had some bright pink file folder holders that I doubt you could find in a store.

Spray paint it new!

It’s amazing what spray paint can adhere to.  I’ve painted plastic, metal, wood and wicker and it all sticks and turns your old crappy stuff into hot new stuff!

And you don’t just have to use these to store files or papers in!

I also decided that it would be cool to have some colorful thread racks as well!

And this is how it looks in my sewing room….
